The WV e-Directive Registry, through the WV Health Information Network, will make make accurate, relevant information on advance directives and physician medical orders available in a medical crisis 24/7 to health care providers and ensure that patients’ wishes will be respected throughout the continuum of health care settings. The Physician Order for Life-Sustaining Treatment (POLST) Paradigm system has distinguished itself as being the national best practice for ensuring that end-of-life treatment preferences are honored. The POLST Paradigm Program (which includes West Virginia’s Physician Orders for Scope of Treatment [POST] program) provides a method for converting a person's treatment preferences into medical orders that are recognized throughout the health care continuum.
